Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay born August 24 72, from Long Beach CA. DuVernay began to develop her artistic and creative talents as a child, thanks to Aunt Denise. DuVernay worked as an evening nurse in order to give her aunt the space she required during the day for the love of literature, art, and theatre. DuVernay quickly fell in love when she showed her that 1961 West Side Story film. DuVernay learnt by doing that art can be a powerful vehicle for political activism. DuVernay's mother also had a social consciousness and taught DuVernay how to convey messages through the medium of art. DuVernay was a child together with her parents in Compton, spent each summer in Lowndes County Alabama in the family home of her father. The father of DuVernay's recollects seeing the historic march of Civil Rights Movement on the Edmund Pettus Bridge. It was located in Selma Alabama, a neighboring city. DuVernay was inspired by her summers in Alabama as inspiration for her film Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay obtained her Saint Joseph High School diploma in Lakewood California. DuVernay enrolled at the University of California Los Angeles after graduating, where she was awarded degrees in English as well as African American Studies. DuVernay began to develop an interest in journalistic broadcasting while in school. She began her career as an assistant to CBS News in the O.J. Simpson Trial. DuVernay recalled being asked to examine the garbage inside the house that belonged to a member of the jury. In the course of her work she began to feel dissatisfied by journalistic work and entered the public relations industry. DuVernay joined a small studio as a junior publicist shortly after graduating from college. Her own Public Relations company, The DuVernay Agency was created in 1999. In addition, she launched several lifestyle and promotion networks such as Urban Beauty Collective. Urban Eye, HelloBeautiful, and Urban Thought Collective.
